Salisbury opens season at No. 1 in first USILA coaches' poll

BALTIMORE - The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association released its preseason coaches' poll on Monday, and the Salisbury University men's lacrosse team is ranked No. 1.

After finishing last season winning the program's 10th national championship, the Sea Gulls received 12-of-17 first-place votes for 333 points to start 2013 where they ended 2012.

The team that Salisbury defeated in the national championship game, State University of New York at Cortland, received four first-place votes for 322 points to grab the No. 2 ranking.

The remainder of the top-five teams include No. 3 Stevenson University (one first-place vote), No. 4 Tufts University and No. 5 Cabrini College.

The Sea Gulls started their season on Sunday with a 17-3 victory over Greensboro College and will continue their title defense on Saturday as they travel to No. 9 Lynchburg College. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
