Men's Lacrosse announces 2010 Team Captains
SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University men's
lacrosse team recently announced its team captains for the 2010
season. The five senior student-athletes are defender Jeff Breeding
(Cockeysville, Md.), long-stick midfielder Connor Burgasser
(Mendon, N.Y.), midfielder Ryan Finch (Finksburg,
Md.), defensive-midfielder Will Poletis (Baltimore,
Md.) and midfielder Mike Von Kamecke
(Winter Park, Fla.).
Over the last three seasons, the group has compiled a career
record of 61-4, a 93.85 winning percentage. In addition they have
won two national championships, three Capital Athletic Conference
championships and made three appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
"We've got five outstanding seniors that have worked extremely
hard, and have been a big part of Sea Gull lacrosse," said SU head
coach Jim
Berkman. "They are five valuable leaders to this
squad."
Burgasser, a first-team All-CAC performer in 2008, returns for
his fourth season as a member of the Sea Gulls. In '09, Burgasser
played and started in all 20 games and scooped up 54 ground balls
and caused a team-high 34 turnovers. For his career he has played
in 63 games and scooped up 166 ground balls with 91 caused
turnovers. In addition he has four career points, on three goals
and one assist.
Breeding returns to the maroon and gold for his fourth season.
Breeding has played in 48 career games with 51 ground balls and 31
caused turnovers. In '09, Breeding set career-highs in games played
(20), ground balls (30) and caused turnovers (19).
Finch, an All-CAC second team performer in '09, returns for his
third season as a Sea Gull and most likely be the primary face-off
specialist. At SU, Finch has a face-off record of 421 wins out of
631 attempts, good for a 66.7 winning percentage. In addition, he
has scooped up 282 ground balls and collected 18 points on five
goals and 13 assists.
Poletis, a member of the All-CAC second team in '09, returns for
his fourth season as the top defensive-midfielder for the Gulls.
For his career Poletis has played in 51 games and scooped up 67
ground balls, caused 34 turnovers and collected 19 points on 13
goals and six assists. In '09 Poletis established new career-highs
in ground balls (41), caused turnovers (14) and assists (four).
Von Kamecke, a two-time honorable mention All-American, returns
for his fourth season with the Sea Gulls. Von Kamecke had another
strong season for the Gulls in '09 as he collected 44 points on 27
goals and 17 assists. Von Kamecke scored one game-winning goal,
scooped up 34 ground balls and caused five turnovers last season.
For his career he has 111 points on 67 goals and 43 assists. In
addition he has three game-winning goals, 63 ground balls and 12
caused turnovers.
The Sea Gulls will open up the 2010 season on the road at
Greensboro College on February 14 at 1 p.m.
