Former Sea Gull Eric Martin to play in FIL gold medal game on Saturday

MANCHESTER, England – Former Salisbury University All-American Eric Martin has captured championships at every level of lacrosse and on Saturday will have the chance to add to his collection. Martin, a member of the U.S. Men's Lacrosse National Team, and his teammates will square off with team Canada in the 2010 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) gold medal game.

The contest between the U.S. and Canada will be broadcast live on ESPNU at 11 a.m. eastern time. The U.S. advanced to the championship game with a 20-5 victory over Japan in the first semifinal, while Canada trounced Australia 15-6 in the other semifinal.

This will be the fourth consecutive FIL gold medal game that the U.S. and Canada meet for the championship. In the 2006 championship, Canada defeated the U.S. 15-10, which broke a string of six consecutive championships that the U.S. had won ('82, '86, '90, '94, '98, '02).

Martin, a long-stick midfielder, missed three games of the pool play round with turf toe but returned for the semifinal game against Japan. The two-time All-American and 2004 Division III National Player of the Year has scored one goal in the competition.
