Burgasser named a USILA Scholar All-American
BALTIMORE – The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) announced its 2010 Scholar All-Americans and Salisbury University senior long-stick midfielder Connor Burgasser (Mendon, N.Y.) was among 70 student-athletes honored.
The USILA Scholar All-Americans consist of Division I, II and
III student-athletes. Division III was the best represented of
the three divisions, as 40 student-athletes, including Burgasser,
were honored. The Sea Gulls have now had at least one
student-athlete honored each of the last six seasons.
Burgasser, a physical education major, has put together a fine
senior season as he has played all 22 games with 20
starts. The Mendon, N.Y., native has caused a team-high 44
turnovers and is third on the team in ground balls with 48.
Burgasser has totaled six points this season on one goal and five
assists. The long-stick midfielder scored his only goal of the
season in a 19-4 victory over York (Pa.) College on April 13. This
season Burgasser was named first-team All-Capital Athletic
Conference and was recently named a second-team All-American by the
USILA.
Burgasser will enter Salisbury's graduate school in the fall and
remain a part of the men's lacrosse program as a graduate assistant
for SU head coach Jim
Berkman.
The Scholar All-Americans are awarded to student-athletes who hold
a 3.0 grade point average or higher and were named to an
All-American team or have been chosen to participate in the
North-South game.
The USILA Scholar All-America Program was established in 1989 to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities. The overall team representing Divisions I, II and III is recognized at the annual Lacrosse All-America Banquet.
