Two former Sea Gulls win NLL Championship as part of Washington Stealth
EVERETT, Wash. – The NCAA may be right
when it says that most of its student-athletes go pro in something
other than sports, but there are always some student-athletes
who have the opportunity to continue their careers in
athletics and move onto professional teams. This was precisely the
case for two former members of the Salisbury University men's
lacrosse team, Eric Martin and Kyle
Hartzell, who joined the National Lacrosse League (NLL) in
hopes of continuing their success on the field. On May 16, the two
did just that as their team, the Washington Stealth, captured the
franchise's first-ever NLL Championship with a 15-11 victory over
the Toronto Rock.
Martin and Hartzell both saw action in the contest that was played
in front of 8,600 at the Comcast Arena in Everett. Martin, a
defenseman of the year nominee, had an offensive spark in the
contest as he scored one goal that led to an 8-0 run for the
Stealth. The Norfolk, Va., native also dished out one assist and
scooped up a game-high 11 loose balls. Hartzell, a transition
player, scooped up six loose balls. The Stealth finished their
championship season with a 14-5 record.
The National Lacrosse League is a men's professional indoor
lacrosse league which is comprised of 11 teams, eight of which are
based in the United States and three of which are in Canada. The
League has been in existence since 1987.
