Salisbury's Kylor Berkman invited to 2009 MLL Collegiate Draft and Combine
BOSTON - Salisbury University men's lacrosse senior midfielder Kylor Berkman has been invited to take part in the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Collegiate Draft and Scouting Combine on Wednesday, May 27, at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J.
The Salisbury, Md., native will take part in a variety of events throughout the day including a live player draft on ESPNU to end the day. The day begins with interviews with each of the six MLL franchises. Players will then going through professional combine testing by sports science organization, EXACT Sports. The players will then compete in a showcase game played under MLL rules. The live draft will be held that evening on ESPNU.
Berkman, the reigning two-time Division III National Midfielder of the Year and reigning Division III National Player of the Year, is having a standout season for the No. 4 Sea Gulls (10-1, 4-0 Capital Athletic Conference). The senior leads the team in points (53) and assists (23) for the two-time defending national champions. Berkman is third on the team in goals with 30 through 11 games. The senior midfielder has fired off 95 shots this season, 59 shots on goal, which equals 62 percent of his shots are on goal. For his career Berkman is currently second all-time in school history with 268 points and second in assists (152).
At the beginning of the 2009 season, Berkman was the only Division III player named on a list of 57 senior pro prospects for the MLL done by Inside Lacrosse magazine.
Over the years Salisbury University has produced the most MLL draft picks from a Division III school and ranks among the top overall. Berkman will have the chance to play with several former SU lacrosse All-Americans that are currently on active MLL rosters. Defenseman Kyle Hartzell and midfielder Justin Smith are set to play for the Washington Bayhawks. Long-stick midfielder Chase Charuso is a member of the Long Island Lizards and defenseman Jeff Bigas is entering his third season with the Chicago Machine. Defenseman Eric Martin is listed on the Denver Outlaw preseason active roster.
