BALTIMORE - The United States
Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) announced its 2008
Scholar All-Americans and senior defenseman Ben
Sandlin and former Sea Gull Matt Dasinger
were selected among 61 student-athletes honored.
The USILA Scholar All-Americans consist of Division I, II and
III student-athletes. The Sea Gulls had as many selections as the
Ivy League combined, as only one Princeton University and Brown
University student-athlete were selected.
Salisbury has had seven student-athletes receive this honor in
the past four seasons. In three of those four seasons two Sea Gulls
had been selected.
Salisbury's Chris Heier was honored in 2007,
Jimmy Creighton and Mike Hurley
garnered the award in 2006 and Jeff Bigas and
Bryan Bradford did so as well in 2005.
Sandlin, a four-year letterwinner, concluded his career with a
spot on the USILA All-American first team. The senior co-captain
anchored one of the top defenses in the country. The All-CAC first
team defender was second on the team in caused turnovers (48),
fourth in ground balls (71) as he started all 22 games. In four
years the Magnolia, Del., native scooped up 120 ground balls and
caused 69 turnovers in 60 games for the maroon and gold.
Dasinger was a four-year letterwinner for the Sea Gulls from
2003-07. He was an All-American first team midfielder for the Gulls
in '07. The Reisterstown, Md., native finished his career with 94
goals, 30 assists, 124 points in 72 games.
The Scholar All-Americans are awarded to student-athletes who
