SALISBURY, Md. - Hours after leading top-ranked Salisbury University to the NCAA Division III men's lacrosse national championship over SUNY Cortland the game's Most Outstanding Player Kylor Berkman was accepting other awards for his 2008 performance on the field.

Berkman was named the National Player of the Year and Midfielder of the Year in Division III as announced by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) at the All-American Awards banquet on Sunday evening in Boston.

This is the second year in a row that Berkman has garnered the Lt. Donald McLaughlin, Jr. Award, for being the top midfielder in the country. Berkman finished first on the team in assists (49), second in points (83), fourth in goals (34) and fifth in ground balls (69). The Salisbury, Md., native scored five goals and added two assists in the 19-13 victory in the national championship game as the Sea Gulls won their 45th straight game and second straight national title over the Red Dragons.

Berkman becomes the eighth Sea Gull to earn the National Player of the Year award in program history. SU has been home to the National Midfielder of the Year eight times since the 1995 season. This is the second straight year that the Sea Gulls had the National Player of the Year and fifth time in six seasons.
