Barcikowski nets 25 as Salisbury takes down Southern Virginia in season finale

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team closed out its regular season with a 78-64 victory over Southern Virginia University. On a day in which the Sea Gulls also honored seniors Chad Barcikowski and Jordan Brooks, Barcikowski tallied his seventh 20-point game of the season netting a team-high 25 points.

Barcikowski got off to a great start knocking down 15 points in the first half to lead the Sea Gulls (17-8, 13-5 CAC) at the break. He finished the opening 20 minutes going 6-of-11 from the field including hitting two long balls and was the only Salisbury player to tally double-digit figures in the first half.

Southern Virginia (11-14, 6-12 CAC) opened up a 21-12 lead mid-way through the first half but it did not hold for long. The Sea Gulls closed the half on a 22-10 run to take a 34-31 lead into the locker room. Barcikowski accounted for eight of the 22 points during the scoring run while six other players knocked down baskets as well.

In the second half the Sea Gulls used another big run to put the game away accounting for 18 points over the final 10 minutes while holding the Knights to just 12. Salisbury was an impressive 65.2 percent from the field while knocking down almost 70 percent of its three-point attempts for the half.  

Blair Davis, who also recorded a double-digit performance totaling 16 points and posting a team-high four steals, tallied 10 points in the second half knocking down 4-of-5 shots from the field and posting a 100 percent mark from beyond the three-point arc.

Lucas Martin was the only other Gull to tally a double-digit performance finishing the afternoon with 10 points on a 4-of-7 clip from the from the field.

Defensively the Sea Gulls were relentless forcing 23 Southern Virginia turnovers, picking up 18 steals, and totaling nine blocks for the day. Barcikowski and J.P. Krotulis led the way with three blocks each while Barcikowski also added in three steals.

Salisbury will be the No. 3 seed in the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament and will host the No. 6 seed Wesley College on Tuesday, February 20. Tip-off between the Sea Gulls and Wolverines is scheduled for 7 p.m.
