INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 23 Salisbury University men's basketball team received the news it was hoping for on Monday from the NCAA, being invited to the Division III tournament as an at-large team. The Sea Gulls will head to New Jersey, where they will take on Middlebury College in the opening round on Friday, March 4.
The Sea Gulls (21-6) advanced to the Capital Athletic Conference tournament championship game this past weekend, falling in the closing moments of overtime. But Salisbury has consistently had one of the toughest strengths of schedule in the Middle Atlantic Region throughout the year, garnering the at-large pick.
Stockton University will host the opening two rounds of the tournament on Friday and Saturday, March 4 and 5. The Sea Gulls battle Middlebury (17-10), which earned an automatic berth after winning the New England Small College Athletic Conference title on Sunday.
Stockton will take on Keene State College in the other first round matchup. The two winners will meet on Saturday evening.
This week's NCAA tournament appearance will be the seventh for the Sea Gulls, who advanced to the second round of the event last season.
