SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University men's basketball team got back in the win column with a 76-67 victory over York College of Pennsylvania Saturday afternoon at Maggs Physical Activities Center. Before the contest, the basketball program celebrated the squad's three seniors.
The Sea Gulls came out firing from long distance, starting the contest on an 11-2 run in the first 3:58 of the contest. Senior Dominic Milburn started the game with a three-pointer, followed up a three from Harwood. Milburn followed with his second three and Strickland capped the opening run with a layup.
York would pull close at several points in the first half, including 30-29 with 4:36 left in the first half. Salisbury went on a 10-3 run to finish the half. The Sea Gulls hit eight of its 12 shots in the first half from long range to take a 40-32 lead into the break.
In the opening minutes of the first half, York (4-19, 3-12 CAC) would pull within six three times before the Sea Gulls lengthened the lead to double digits, 50-38, when freshman Justin Witmer hit a three with 15:59 remaining in the contest.
The Spartans would close the gap to seven, 54-47, with 10:48 left in the contest, following two free throws by B.J. Enck. Over the next 3:39, Salisbury would go on a 12-4 run, capped by a three-pointer by senior Brandyn Wilkerson, to widen the gap to a game-high 15 points, 66-51.
Salisbury would maintain a comfortable lead down the stretch, with the Spartans never threatening the Sea Gull lead.
Milburn chipped in 12 points to extend his double-digit scoring streak to 10 games; he and Harwood each pulled down five rebounds to lead the Sea Gulls. Harwood and Strickland each handed out a team-high four assists.
Matt McNeely scored 22 points, while Ryan Beaver added 11 to lead the Spartans.
Salisbury will host Marymount (Va.) University on Wednesday, Feb. 19 for the final regular-season contest at Maggs Physical Activities Center. That contest is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
