SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury University men's basketball senior Mike Atkins has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
To be eligible for nomination, a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or key reserve on his team.
A forward, Atkins is averaging 11.4 points per game this season (second on the team), shooting 35.2 percent on three-point tries, and has pulled down 3.2 rebounds per game.
This year, the Annapolis, Md., native scored a career-best 27 points against Frostburg State University on Salisbury's way to the Pride of Maryland Tournament championship. He has also helped the Sea Gulls to a win against then-No. 1-ranked Virginia Wesleyan College.
Atkins is now up for consideration for Academic All-America status, which will be announced in late February.
The Sea Gulls will play their next three games on the road as they battle for a Capital Athletic Conference tournament berth. They take the floor on Saturday, Feb. 5 at the University of Mary Washington. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
