NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team took just its second non-conference loss of the season on Monday night, falling at Christopher Newport University, 81-65.

Senior Devin Posey scored a career-high 17 points in the contest, connecting on 6-of-13 shooting from the floor while dishing out three assists.

The Captains (15-3) jumped out to an early 12-2 lead before Salisbury would make a run as Posey scored all nine points in a 9-2 Sea Gull push to get his team within four, 15-11.

The Christopher Newport lead would grow to eight before Salisbury (9-8) made another run. This time senior Mike Maczko scored six of Salisbury's points in a 10-2 run as the Gulls tied the game at 28-28 when senior Dylan Robeson hit a jumper with 5:38 remaining before halftime.

The game would be tied two more times before the Captains took a 39-36 lead into the break.

Salisbury would pull within two just five minutes into the second half, but a 20-3 Christopher Newport run opened up a lead that Salisbury could not come back from.

Maczko scored 10 points and pulled in four rebounds while Conley Taylor scored a game-high 35 points for Christopher Newport, including 14-of-16 from the free-throw line. As a team, Salisbury attempted just 10 free throws while the Captains connected on 24-of-31 tries from the charity stripe.

Salisbury will get back into Capital Athletic Conference action this Wednesday as the Gulls will travel to Stevenson University. The game is slated to begin at 8 p.m. Salisbury will play eight-consecutive CAC games to close out the regular season.
