ROCKVILLE, Md. - Senior forward Greg Palmer
(Salisbury, Md.) led the Salisbury University men's
basketball team to the title in the 2009 Optimist Classic this past
weekend, claiming tournament MVP honors. On Monday, the
guard/forward was given another award as he was named the
PrestoSports/Pride of Maryland Player of the Week.
Palmer averaged just under 20 points in the team's three games
this past week, as the Sea Gulls opened up Capital Athletic
Conference play with a loss to Hood College before topping
Methodist University and Hampden-Sydney College in the Optimist
Classic.
The Salisbury, Md., native was also good for 7.3 rebounds per
game while shooting 50 percent from the floor and an astonishing
52.2 percent from three-point land for the week, going 12-for-23
from beyond the arc.
Palmer saved his best performance of the week for last, scoring
a season-high 25 points against Hampden-Sydney in the Optimist
Classic title game and going 7-for-8 from outside. Palmer played
all 40 minutes in that contest, grabbing seven rebounds, dishing
five assists and blocking three shots.
Palmer was named the Pride of Maryland Player of the Week once
last season. Additionally, he was named to the Pride of Maryland
All-Tournament team earlier this season.
