Sea Gulls open up season with win against Goucher

WESTMINSTER, Md. - The Salisbury University men's basketball team opened up its season on a high note, defeating Goucher College 65-63. The Sea Gulls traveled to McDaniel College to participate in the Pride of Maryland Tournament, scheduled to run through Nov. 22.

The maroon and gold were led by senior guards Devin Jones (Severn, Md.) and Greg Palmer (Salisbury, Md.), as well as junior center Chris McGrew (Burtonsville, Md.). Palmer led the charge with 15 points on the night, with Jones and McGrew contributing 12 points apiece in the Sea Gull victory.

Salisbury outscored Goucher 26-22 in the first half; in the second half, the Sea Gulls and Gophers remained fairly even in scoring, netting 39 and 41 points, respectively. Gopher Micah Perry hit two crucial three-point shots in the last three minutes of play to bring Goucher to within two points of Salisbury, but the Gulls were able to maintain control of the game and earn the victory. The maroon and gold saw eight players score points in the win.

The Sea Gulls continue their play in the Pride of Maryland Tournament tomorrow. Game time and opponent are TBA.
