A grand day for Palmer, Sea Gulls fall at Wesley
DOVER, Del. - Salisbury University senior
guard/forward Greg Palmer (Salisbury,
Md.) connected on a two-point field goal off a Drew
Dickson assist just over two minutes into the men's basketball
team's game at Wesley College Saturday afternoon. The basket was
good for Palmer's third and fourth points of the game, and pushed
him over the 1,000-point plateau for his Sea Gull career.
Palmer finished the day with 10 points, but it was not enough
for the Sea Gulls (6-8, 2-4 CAC), who fell to the Wolverines,
68-63.
The game was close throughout, with the largest point
differential in the first 39 minutes being Salisbury's seven-point
lead six minutes into the game. Wesley (8-6, 2-4 CAC) held a 34-32
lead at the half and the game was rarely more spread out than the
two points after that. The lead changed hands eight times in the
final 20 minutes and the game was tied six times in the second
half.
Junior center Chris McGrew
(Burtonsville, Md.) paced the Sea Gulls with 21
points, on 9-of-10 shooting from the floor, and nine rebounds while
sophomore guard Mike Maczko (Bel Air,
Md.) scored 18 points and added seven rebounds.
Palmer became the 28th member of the 1,000-point club
at Salisbury University, and the first since Segun Odumeru and Ray
Williams each reached the milestone during the 2006-07 season.
Palmer will be recognized prior to the start of Salisbury's next
game, a home date with the University of Mary Washington Monday
night at Maggs Physical Activities Center. That game is slated to
begin at 8 p.m.
