Palmer named PrestoSports/Provident Pride Player of the Week

ROCKVILLE, Md. - Salisbury University junior guard Greg Palmer received his second honor of the week after being named PrestoSports/Provident Pride Player of the Week on Monday. This is the first PrestoSports/Provident Pride Player of the Week selection for the SU men's basketball team this season.

It is the first time Palmer has been honored with this award in his three-year career. Last week, he was on the PrestoSports/Provident Pride Honor Roll. The Salisbury, Md., native was also named the Capital Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday.

The co-captain led the Sea Gulls to their second consecutive victory with a win over CAC foe, York (Pa.) College, 74-63, last Tuesday. Palmer totaled 20 points, grabbed three rebounds and dished out three assists. The Salisbury, Md., native has notched at least 11 points in the past five games. He is leading the Sea Gulls in 13 statistical categories, including 13.9 points per game and 5.8 rebounds per game.

There were two players named to this week's PrestoSports/Provident Pride Honor Roll in Frostburg State University sophomore guard Brian Anderson and St. Mary's (Md.) College senior center Alex Irmer.

Entering its third year, the PrestoSports/Provident Pride Player of the Week Award is granted on a weekly basis (Mondays) on behalf of the Pride of Maryland Tournament Committee. Each week, each of the nine Provident Pride schools has the ability to nominate one men's basketball player, based upon their on-court accomplishments over the previous seven days. An esteemed panel of media members vote to select the most outstanding player of the group. Simply, the student-athlete with the most votes becomes the PrestoSports/Provident Pride Player of the Week. All student-athletes who receive votes, but are not named the PrestoSports/Provident Pride Player of the Week, are then named to the PrestoSports/Provident Pride Honor Roll.

The Provident Pride is comprised of the nine NCAA Division III schools in the state: Frostburg State University, Goucher College, Hood College, John Hopkins University, McDaniel College, Salisbury University, St. Mary's College of Maryland, Stevenson University and Washington College.

The Sea Gulls will take a three-week layoff for winter break and will return to action in the New Year on Saturday, January 3. SU will welcome the Shoremen of Washington College for a 7 p.m. matchup between the two Eastern Shore rivals.
