Jones earns second PrestoSports/Provident Pride Player of the Week honor
ROCKVILLE, Md. - Salisbury University junior guard Devin Jones was named the recipient of the PrestoSports/Provident Pride Player of the Week for February 23 on Monday.
This is the second time in the past five weeks that Jones has been honored with this award, the other time was January 26. He was named to the PrestoSports/Provident Pride Honor Roll on January 12. The Severn, Md., native is the second PrestoSports/Provident Pride Player of the Week selection from the SU men's basketball team this season as junior guard Greg Palmer was honored on December 15.
Jones helped lead SU to a 1-1 record last week as the Sea Gulls closed out the regular season with a 75-73 win over Hood College at home. He tallied 12 points, a game-high five assists, and four rebounds against Marymount (Va.) last Wednesday. The co-captain then registered a game-high 26 points, six rebounds, and three rebounds against Hood. For the week, Jones notched 38 points (19 points per game), 10 rebounds and eight assists.
There were two players named to this week's PrestoSports/Provident Pride Honor Roll including Washington (Md.) College senior guard Tim Kohlrus and Frostburg State University sophomore forward Steven Ogg.
Entering its third year, the PrestoSports/Provident Pride Player of the Week Award is granted on a weekly basis (Mondays) on behalf of the Pride of Maryland Tournament Committee. Each week, each of the nine Provident Pride schools has the ability to nominate one men's basketball player, based upon their on-court accomplishments over the previous seven days. An esteemed panel of media members vote to select the most outstanding player of the group. Simply, the student-athlete with the most votes becomes the PrestoSports/Provident Pride Player of the Week. All student-athletes who receive votes, but are not named the PrestoSports/Provident Pride Player of the Week, are then named to the PrestoSports/Provident Pride Honor Roll.
The Provident Pride is comprised of the nine NCAA Division III schools in the state: Frostburg State University, Goucher College, Hood College, John Hopkins University, McDaniel College, Salisbury University, St. Mary's (Md.) College of Maryland, Stevenson University and Washington (Md.) College.

University on Tuesday, February 24 at 7 p.m. The Sea Gulls split the season series with the Saints with two close games.
