STEVENSON, Md. - Salisbury
University doubled its shooting percentage in the second half of
Wednesday's Capital Athletic Conference men's basketball game
against Villa Julie College on the road. The second half spark
wasn't enough to offset a rough first half as the Mustangs (5-10,
3-3 CAC) handed the Sea Gulls (2-13, 0-6 CAC) their 12th straight
loss.
Salisbury shot 48.3 percent from the field in the second half,
up from 27 percent in the first half, but couldn't decrease the
Mustang advantage to single digits down the stretch. The Sea Gulls
shot 36.4 percent from the field for the game and 61.5 percent from
the free-throw line (8-of-13).
The Sea Gulls were paced by senior Jonas
Vaitkus' 19 points and eight rebounds. Vaitkus scored 10
of SU's 36 points in the second half. Sophomore Greg
Palmer was the other Sea Gull to reach double figures as
he scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds.
Villa Julie shot over 60 percent from the field, three-point
range and at the free-throw line in the second half and finished
the game close to 50 percent or over in those same three
categories. The Mustangs had three players in double digits
including Greg Woody (17 points), Mike Turner (11) and Jeremy
Bernard (10). VJC led 29-21 at the half.
The Sea Gulls return home for a Saturday afternoon CAC contest
with Marymount (Va.) University at 4 pm. in the Maggs Center.
