Sea Gulls drop to No. 30 in latest ITA Division III rankings
SKILLMAN, N.J. - The Salisbury University men's tennis team dropped one spot the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III national poll as the Sea Gulls are ranked No. 30 in the nation. The Sea Gulls (14-7) recently finished their season as they advanced to the Capital Athletic Conference championship where they lost 8-1 to No. 17 University of Mary Washington.
Washington (Mo.) University bumped up from No. 2 to No. 1 followed by Emory University at No. 2, UC Santa Cruz at No. 3 and Claremont-Mudd Scripps at No. 4. Middlebury College rounds out the top five.
Salisbury's men's team is still ranked No. 7 in the Atlantic South region while the women's team is ranked No. 8.
The Sea Gulls did not make the 2009 NCAA Division III men's tennis tournament field but SU top doubles pair of juniors Scott Burtzlaff and Evan Thomas, ranked third in the region, await the official announcement of the NCAA individual championship field slated to be released on Wednesday, May 6.
The final ITA poll of the season will be released June 9.
