GILBERT, Ariz. – The most recent Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Coaches Poll was released on Tuesday, and the Salisbury University field hockey team inched closer to the top five, coming in at No. 6.
The Sea Gulls (16-2), who earned 546 points in this week's poll, moved up a spot from their No. 7 ranking last week. The top four teams in the nation remain unchanged: Messiah College at No. 1 (718 points), Middlebury College at No. 2 (710 points), Rowan University at No. 3 (709 points) and Tufts University at No. 4 (627 points). Vassar College rounds out the top five with 572 points after being ranked sixth last week.
Salisbury, which recently captured its 21st Capital Athletic Conference title and an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III field hockey tournament, is set to host NCAA tournament second and third-round action this weekend. There will be two games on Saturday as the Sea Gulls will take on the winner of a first-round game between No. 15 Washington & Jefferson College and Rhodes College, and No. 4 Tufts will take on the winner between No. 10 Montclair State University and Smith College. Both of those first-round games will be played on Wednesday, November 7.
