FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced its first field hockey awards for the 2018 season and Salisbury University's Emily Lemanski and Jillian Hughes swept the league's Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards, respectively.
Lemanski, a senior forward, scored three times in two victories at the Misericordia Invitational this weekend, putting home the game winner in each contest. Her score in the seventh minute against Dickinson College on Friday was the game's only goal, while she added the first and fourth goals in a 4-0 win against the host Cougars on Saturday.
Lemanski was the only player in the CAC to score more than two goals in the opening week of the season.
Hughes, a junior back, anchored the Salisbury defense which pitched a pair of shutouts and allowed just five shot attempts in two games. Dickinson attempted just two shots on Friday, while Misericordia attempted three shots.
Lemanski, Hughes, and the Sea Gulls are back in action on Wednesday, September 5 when they travel to Stevenson University. That match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
