GILBERT, Ariz. – The National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced its Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll for the preseason on Tuesday and Salisbury University's field hockey team will begin the year as the No. 5 team in the nation.
The Sea Gulls earned 926 points in the poll, behind only Middlebury College (1,362 points), Messiah College (1,287), The College of New Jersey (1,112), and Franklin & Marshall College (1,023).
Salisbury currently has four teams in the preseason top 20 on its schedule for the 2018 season, with the first meeting against a ranked opponent a showdown with No. 2 Messiah on September 8 in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
The Sea Gulls will begin the 2018 season at the Misericordia Invitational, against Dickinson College, this Friday, August 31, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Salisbury is joined in the preseason poll from the Capital Athletic Conference by Christopher Newport University, which sits at No. 6, with 843 points.
