GILBERT, Ariz. – The National Field Hockey Coaches Association released its final rankings of the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III Coaches Poll on Tuesday afternoon. The Salisbury University Sea Gulls remained at No. 6 in the nation.
The Sea Gulls earned 481 points in this week's poll after completing a 1-1 week in which they beat York College of Pennsylvania in the Capital Athletic Conference semifinals 3-2 in OT to advance to the CAC championship. The maroon and gold fell to No. 4 Christopher Newport University (551) 2-1 in OT of the conference finals in Newport News, Va.
Messiah College remained at No. 1 posting an unblemished 19-0 record receiving 32 first-place votes while also collecting 709 points. The Falcons remained the top team in the country from start to finish of the 2017 season and will carry a 41-game winning streak into the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship. Middlebury College (682) remained at No. 2 picking up four first-place votes while The College of New Jersey (607) climbed up one sport in the poll to No. 3 this week. The Captains moved up one spot to No. 4 while Babson College (538) rounded out the top five in the country.
Salisbury will play in the NCAA tournament for the 33rd time in program history after receiving an at-large bid. The Sea Gulls will travel to Grantham, Pennsylvania for a regional hosted by Messiah and take on the winner of Trinity (Conn.) College and Gwynedd Mercy University in the second round. That game is scheduled to begin on Saturday, November 11 at 2 p.m.
