CHANDLER, Ariz. – The Salisbury University field hockey team's season may have ended in November but the team is still being recognized not only for what it does on the field but also what it accomplishes in the classroom. The field hockey team has been awarded the 2012 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award. Along with the team award, 16 players were named to the 2012 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad.
The team award is given to programs with a team grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better.
The 16 student-athletes that were named to the SGI/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad continue the program's tradition of excellence both on the field and in the classroom: seniors Erica Henderson, Amber Holland, Katie McMahon and Melissa Slocum, juniors Hannah Castelow, Mallory Elliott, Rebecca Hasz, Haley Quillen, Jessica Seay, and Leigh Willing along with sophomores Karen Cindea and Rachel Clewer and freshmen Gabriella Fazio, Anna Hurm, Samantha Johnson, and Breck Sullivan.
In order to be named to the Academic Squad student-athletes must earn a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2012-13 academic year.
