Strong second half propels Salisbury to win at Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The No. 2 Salisbury University field hockey team came on in the second half at Wittenberg University to claim a 5-1 win, scoring four times after halftime, improving to 8-1 on the season.

Junior midfielder Courtney Webster (Chance, Md.) started off a big day just 16 minutes into the contest. She scored the only goal of the first half off a Tara McGovern (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) assist. It would be the beginning of a five-point game for Webster.

After Lauren Correll (Bridgeville, Del.) scored in the 39th minute, off Webster's assist, to make it 2-0, Webster followed up with  her second tally of the game, assisted by Beverly Beladino (Putnam Valley, N.Y.). Correll added another, less than eight minutes later, to give the Sea Gulls a commanding 4-0 lead.

Wittenberg (5-3) scored to cut the lead to 4-1, but the Sea Gulls would get the final margin back to four on a goal by Beladino, assisted by Correll, with less than five minutes remaining in the match.

With her two goals and one assist, Correll has notched at least one point in each of Salisbury's last five contests.

The Sea Gulls dominated play throughout the 70 minutes, holding a 16-4 advantage on penalty corners and a 40-4 edge on shots.

Sea Gull goalkeeper Anna Cooke (Ann Arbor, Mich.) made five saves to claim her eighth win of the season.

Salisbury will play Sunday, also in Ohio, as they travel to Kenyon College.
