Sea Gulls ranked No. 2 team in nation for fourth consecutive week

CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Salisbury University field hockey team clinched the No. 2 spot in the nation for the fourth consecutive week in this week's Kookaburra/NFHCA (National Field Hockey Coaches Association) Division III poll, released Tuesday. The Sea Gulls (10-1, 3-0 Capital Athletic Conference) were edged out by Messiah College (9-0), who has retained the top spot since the start of the season.

The Sea Gulls received 1004 points in the poll, a close second to Messiah's 1071 points. Tufts University (7-0), Ursinus College (9-2) and SUNY Cortland (11-0) rounded out this week's top five teams.

Salisbury's most recent win came as the Sea Gulls traveled to York, Pa. to face CAC foe York College, where they defeated the Spartans by a margin of 2-1. The maroon and gold's lone loss of the season came at the hands of Messiah in a 3-2 OT decision on Sept. 19. Regardless, the Sea Gulls have outscored their opponents 55-7 in 11 games and currently boast a four-game winning streak.

Salisbury remains on the road for the next two games, as the Gulls first face CAC opponent Wesley College on Oct. 13 and then take on The College of New Jersey on Oct. 17. The maroon and gold's only home game in October will be on the 20th, as the Sea Gulls face CAC rival Stevenson University at 6 p.m.
