Sea Gulls hold steady in rankings, still No. 2 in nation
CHANDLER, Az. - The Salisbury University field hockey team remained at No. 2 in the Kookaburra/NFHCA (National Field Hockey Coaches Association) Division III poll, released Tuesday. This is the second consecutive week that the Gulls have been ranked as the No. 2 team in the country.
The unchanged ranking this week comes in part from Salisbury's heartbreaking loss, in overtime, to No. 1 ranked Messiah College (6-0). After tying up the game, 2-2, with no time left on the clock, the maroon and gold fought for possession but couldn't stop Messiah from scoring just four minutes and 40 seconds into the overtime period. Regardless of the loss, the Sea Gulls have still outscored their opponents, 38-4, in seven games. Salisbury (6-1) received 1018 points in the poll, while Messiah received 1112.
The Sea Gulls host No. 12 Rowan University on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m., before hitting the road for five consecutive away games.
