Chamberlin named 2009 Dita/NFHCA South Region Coach of the Year

CHANDLER, Ariz. - The 2009 Salisbury University field hockey team's season may be over, but the accolades just keep on coming. Head coach Dawn Chamberlin has been named the 2009 Dita/NFHCA (National Field Hockey Coaches Association) South Region Coach of the Year.

Chamberlin, who was inducted into the NFHCA Hall of Fame earlier this year, guided her Sea Gulls to the program's fifth national championship with a 1-0 takedown of Messiah College on Nov. 22; four of those titles have been won under her tenure as head coach. This year, Salisbury finished with a record of 20-1 and two of her players earned All-American honors. Six of her players earned spots on All-Capital Athletic Conference teams, including sophomore back Tara McGovern (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), who was named CAC Player of the Year. Chamberlin was named CAC Coach of the Year for the 13th time. Additionally, the Sea Gulls have won 15 straight CAC championships under her tenure.

It isn't the first time Chamberlin has been named South Region Coach of the Year; in fact, this marks the eighth time that she has earned the title. In 23 seasons as head coach of Salisbury field hockey, Chamberlin's overall record stands at 356-90-8.

The 2009 Dita/NFHCA Division III National Coach of the Year will be announced at the NFHCA Coaches Recognition Luncheon, to be held on Jan. 8, 2010 in Richmond, Virginia.
