Ellenberger named CAC field hockey Player of the Week

YORK, Pa. - The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly conference player of the week awards and Salisbury University freshman back Emily Ellenberger (Gaithersburg, Md.) was named the field hockey recipient. This marks the first time this fall an SU field hockey player has been named CAC Player of the Week.

Ellenberger played and started in two of three Sea Gull (5-0) victories over the last week. Her best game came against No. 3 Ursinus College where Ellenberger kept the Bears off the board with two pivotal defensive saves in the first half. The SU defense only forced junior goalkeeper Anna Cooke (Ann Arbor, Mich.) to make four second-half saves on six shots. In Saturday's win over Frostburg (Md.) State University, Ellenberger and the SU defense did not force Cooke to make a save in the contest. Through five games SU has outscored its opponents 30-1.

The Sea Gulls will be back in action this Wednesday at Sea Gull Stadium under the lights at 6 p.m., against Johns Hopkins University (4-0). The last time the two teams squared off was on Sept. 17, 2008 with the Blue Jays winning 1-0 in Baltimore, Md.
