No. 6 ranked Salisbury shuts out No. 3 ranked Ursinus, 2-0

SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 6 ranked Salisbury University women's field hockey team upset No. 3 ranked Ursinus College in front of a crowd of 250 fans at the SU Invitational on Sunday afternoon. With a score of 2-0, this is the first time the Bears have been shut out since 2003. The win brings the Sea Gulls' record to a perfect 5-0 for the season.

After a scoreless and highly competitive first half, Salisbury shot out of the gates with a goal off of a penalty stroke by junior midfielder Kandice Hancock (Westover, Md.). The Gulls capitalized again in the 59th minute of play, as senior forward Lauren Correll (Bridgeville, Del.) scored an unassisted goal. In the box, sophomore goalie Anna Cooke (Ann Arbor, Mich.) (5-0) tallied nine saves, while Bears goalie Erica Scott (3-2) had three saves on the day.

This is the second shutout of the Invitational for the Sea Gulls, who defeated Frostburg State, 8-0, yesterday afternoon at Sea Gull Stadium. Salisbury will stay at home for the next three games, beginning with No. 11 ranked Johns Hopkins University at 6:00pm on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
