Beladino, Webster pace Sea Gulls to 5-0 win over Wesley

SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 8 Salisbury University field hockey team defeated Capital Athletic Conference opponent Wesley College, 5-0, on Wednesday evening at Sea Gull Stadium. The Sea Gulls held on to notch their seventh shutout of the season after a 30-minute lightning delay with five minutes left to play in the game.

Junior Beverly Beladino and sophomore Courtney Webster led the scoring for the Sea Gulls as the duo connected on three of the game's five scores. Beladino made a pass from the right side, inside the circle near the end line, to Webster who smacked in the game's first goal 16 minutes into the contest.

The combo combined to score the final two goals of the game in the second half. The roles were reversed as Beladino took feeds from Webster to beat Wesley goalie Sarah Johnson (16 saves). Beladino's two goals were her first and second of the season. Beladino's two goals were scored at the 44th and 50th minutes.

Salisbury (8-2, 3-0 CAC) was dominant in its performance taking 15 shots in the first half and 27 for the game. SU took 13 penalty corners to Wesley's four. The Sea Gull defense limited the Wolverines (5-5, 0-3 CAC) to just one shot on goal. Sea Gull goalie Anna Cooke (one save) improved to 4-0 on the year, all shutout victories.

Freshman Tara McGovern scored the final goal of the first half off a penalty corner with no time left on the clock. Salisbury led 2-0 at the break.

Junior Lauren Correll scored her ninth goal of the season, a team-high, two minutes into the second half.

The maroon and gold will remain at home to take on McDaniel College on Wednesday, October 7, at 6 p.m.
