SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 9 Salisbury University
field hockey team received a total team effort Sunday as the Sea
Gulls shutout Hood College, 12-0, in a Capital Athletic Conference
game at Sea Gull Stadium.
Salisbury (10-2, 4-0 CAC) had four different players score two
or more goals in its highest goal output of the season and the most
since September 29, 2005 when the Gulls defeated Goucher College by
the same score.
Sophomore Katy Lamboni had a career game as she
scored three consecutive goals, in nine minutes, for the maroon and
gold early in the first half. Her first goal came off an assist
from sophomore Courtney Webster at the 8:38 mark
to give SU a 2-0 lead. Lamboni scored her second goal 50 seconds
later from five yards out and then completed the hat trick on her
second unassisted goal at the 17 minute mark. The Sea Gulls scored
two more goals before the half off the sticks of freshman
Caitlin Walker and junior Lauren
Correll (two goals). Correll's second goal of the game
came off a nice assist from sophomore Kandice
Hancock, who centered the ball from the right baseline,
and found Correll on the left side of the cage. SU led 6-0 at the
half.
The Sea Gulls were able to play their entire team against the
Blazers (1-9, 0-5 CAC) as the young Salisbury players received
valuable game experience in the second half. Freshman
Alison Bloodsworth scored the first three goals of
the second half in a 14-minute span. Bloodsworth's three goals is a
career-high. Her first goal was assisted by freshman Kelsey
Fetsko (one goal, one assist) and her third goal was
assisted by sophomore Abby Tedford at the 56:08
mark. Sophomore Camile Walker scored back-to-back
goals, in a three-minute window, to set a new career-high mark for
her. Walker's first goal came, two minutes after Bloodsworth's
third goal, on a fast break when she tipped in a pass from freshman
Danielle Lehman. Fetsko scored the game's final
goal with four minutes left in the game on another fast break
against the Blazer defense.
Salisbury outshot Hood, 36-1, and took a season-high 40 penalty
corners. The Blazers recorded two second half corners and committed
91 fouls. Hood goalie Jen Lacy made 14 saves and the Blazers had
two defensive saves in the loss. Sophomore Anna
Cooke (6-0) earned the shutout and recorded one save in
the win. This is Salisbury's fifth straight shutout and ninth for
the season.
The Sea Gulls next turn their attention to their highly
anticipated Homecoming Weekend matchup with No. 2 The College of
New Jersey on Saturday, October 18, at 6 p.m. in Sea Gull Stadium.
Last season, Salisbury defeated the Lions 3-1 on the road.
TCNJ (9-1) defeated No. 10 Rowan University 3-2 in overtime
on Saturday.
