Salisbury ranked No. 7 in the final STX/NFHCA poll

CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Salisbury University field hockey team moved up to No. 7 in the final STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III coaches' poll released Tuesday.

Salisbury (15-3) earned a total of 276 points as the maroon and gold won its 14th straight Capital Athletic Conference championship last Saturday with a 2-0 win over St. Mary's (Md.) College. SU is sandwiched between No. 6 Middlebury College (13-3) and No. 8 Lebanon Valley College (18-3) in the rankings.

Messiah College (15-1) remains the No. 1 team in the country as the Falcons garnered 10 first-place votes and 396 points, one more than Ursinus College (17-2). The Bears moved up a spot to No. 2 as they won the Centennial Conference championship last week. Ursinus earned six first-place votes and 395 points. No. 3 Bowdoin (15-2), the defending national champions, won the New England Small College Athletic Conference championship with two wins last weekend and received three first-place votes. No. 4 Tufts University (16-1), two first-place votes, and No. 5 The College of New Jersey (15-2) round out the top five.

Salisbury will next be in action this Saturday, November 15, at 2 p.m. in the second round of the 2008 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship. The Sea Gulls are in the Ursinus regional and will face the winner of Wednesday's first round game between No. 9 SUNY Cortland (15-2) and Castleton.
