Salisbury moves down one spot in latest STX/NFHCA poll

CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Salisbury University field hockey team moved down one spot to No. 10 in the latest STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III coaches' poll released Tuesday.

Salisbury (10-3, 4-0 Capital Athletic Conference) earned a total of 353 points as the maroon and gold lost a tough 2-1 overtime game to former No. 2 The College of New Jersey (11-1).

The Lions are the new No. 1 team in the country as Bowdoin College (11-1), the defending national champions, lost to No. 9 Trinity College 2-0 last week. TCNJ earned 11 first-place votes and 581 points while five other teams garnered first-place votes.

Bowdoin still received five first-place votes and tallied 561 points as the Polar Bears are ranked No. 2 this week. Ursinus College (11-2) received the second highest amount of first-place votes (eight) as the Bears are ranked No. 3 with 543 points. The rest of the top five is No. 4 Messiah College (10-1) and No. 5 Tufts University (11-0). Messiah had one first-place vote and Tufts garnered five. The other school to receive a first-place vote is Trinity (10-1). SU is ranked above No. 11 Rowan University (9-3).

Salisbury is on the road Tuesday as the Sea Gulls face Stevenson University in a Capital Athletic Conference game at 4 p.m.
