CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Salisbury University
field hockey team remains in the top 10 in the latest STX/National
Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III coaches' poll
released Tuesday. The Sea Gulls stay ranked at No. 9 in the
country.
Salisbury (9-2, 4-0 Capital Athletic Conference) earned a total
of 393 points as the maroon and gold recorded a 12-0 shutout
against Hood College last Sunday and a 2-0 shutout against McDaniel
College last week.
Bowdoin College (11-0), the defending national champions,
remains at No. 1 as the Polar Bears received 28 first-place
votes out of 32 for 635 points. The College of New Jersey
(9-1) remains at No. 2 after the Lions defeated Rowan University
last week. TCNJ received three first-place votes. Messiah College
(8-1), Ursinus College (8-2) and Tufts University (9-0) round out
the top five. Ursinus was the other school to receive a first-place
vote. SU is 12 points behind No. 8 Lebanon Valley College (10-2)
and 47 points in front of No. 10 Rowan (8-3).
The Sea Gulls next turn their attention to their highly
anticipated Homecoming Weekend matchup with No. 2 The College of
New Jersey on Saturday, October 18, at 6 p.m. in Sea Gull Stadium.
Last season, Salisbury defeated the Lions 3-1 on the road.
