Oct 7, 2008 Salisbury stays in top 10 in latest STX/NFHCA poll CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Salisbury University
field hockey team moved down a spot to No. 9 in the latest
STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III coaches'
poll released Tuesday.
Salisbury (8-2, 3-0 Capital Athletic Conference) earned a total
of 338 points as the maroon and gold recorded a 5-0 shutout
against Wesley College last week.
Bowdoin College (9-0), the defending national champions, remains
at No. 1 as the Polar Bears received 22 first-place votes out
of 28 for 538 points. The Polar Bears defeated Middlebury
College 2-0 last weekend. The Panthers (6-1) dropped one spot to
No. 3 and earned one first-place vote. The College of New Jersey
(8-1) moved up four spots as the Lions defeated Johns Hopkins
University (11-1) on the road last week with a 3-0 shutout. The
Lions earned three first-place votes and 469 points. The Blue Jays
moved down to No. 6 with 452 points. Messiah College (6-1) and
Ursinus College (7-2) round out the top five. No. 5 Ursinus and No.
12 Trinty (Conn.) College (8-0) were the only other programs
to record a first-place vote. Salisbury is sandwiched between No. 8
Lebanon Valley College (10-1) and No. 10 Rowan University (7-2).
Tufts University (8-0) is the other team in the top 10 at No. 7.
The Sea Gulls return to action on Tuesday, October 7, as they
host McDaniel College in a non-conference game in Sea
Gull Stadium at 6 p.m.
