SU field hockey earns NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award, 11 players honored
GLEN ALLEN, Va. - The Salisbury University field hockey team was recognized again by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) as one of 97 schools to earn the 2008 NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award.
To be recognized a team must hold a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Sea Gulls are joined by five other Capital Athletic Conference teams; Hood College, Stevenson University, St. Mary's (Md.) College, Wesley College and York (Pa.) College.
In addition to the team award, 11 Salisbury student-athletes were recognized as members of the 2008 NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad. SU had three players honored with the award for the third consecutive year in juniors Jennifer Bandy, Lauren Correll and Megan Maloney. The Sea Gulls had two players repeat as winners of the award in sophomores Christine Craddock and Katie Fost. The newcomers to the squad for Salisbury were sophomores Kelsey Fetsko and Kandice Hancock and freshmen Paige Lowery, Tara McGovern, Liz Tollett and Tara Williams.
The NFHCA National Academic Squad recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2008-09 academic year.
