McGovern named CAC Field Hockey Player of the Week
YORK, Pa. - The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly conference player of the week awards and Salisbury University freshman back Tara McGovern was named the field hockey recipient for the week of October 27.
McGovern led the No. 10 Sea Gulls (12-3, 6-0 CAC) to victories over Stevenson University and University of Mary Washington last week to clinch the top seed in the upcoming CAC tournament. For the week McGovern scored one goal and had two assists. She assisted the first goal of the game last Wednesday against the Mustangs in the 3-1 win at Stevenson. The Yorktown Heights, N.Y., native scored a goal and tallied one assist in last Saturday's 4-1 victory over the Eagles. She now has two goals, four assists and eight points on the season.
McGovern is the third Salisbury player to receive CAC Player of the Week honors this season. Junior Lauren Correll received the honor for September 29 and sophomore Kandice Hancock was the recipient for September 15.
The Gulls will close out their regular-season schedule at home on Wednesday, October 29, at 6 p.m. against Catholic University of America.
