Hancock garners CAC Player of the Week honors
YORK, Pa. - The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly conference player of the week awards and Salisbury University sophomore Kandice Hancock (Westover, Md.) was named the co-field hockey recipient for the week of September 15.
Hancock had an outstanding week for the No. 3 Sea Gulls (5-0) as she tallied four goals and one assist. The sophomore had a goal in each victory last week for the Sea Gulls. Hancock, the 2007 CAC Rookie of the Year, had her biggest goal of the week come against No. 13 Christopher Newport University last weekend. She scored her first goal of the season in overtime to lift the Sea Gulls to a 2-1 victory.
Hancock shares the award with University of Mary Washington sophomore forward Emma Jones. Hancock is the first SU field hockey player to receive a CAC Player of the Week award this season.
Jones scored four goals in three games for the Eagles, including both goals in a 2-0 win over Bridgewater, one goal in a CAC victory over York (Pa.) College and the game-winning goal in a 1-0 triumph over Dickinson.
The Sea Gulls return to action on Wednesday, September 17, as they travel up to Baltimore to face in-state rival and No. 10 Johns Hopkins University at 7 p.m.
