CHANDLER, Ariz. - The National Field
Hockey Coaches Association announced its 2008 Longstreth/NFHCA
Division III All-Region teams and Salisbury University had five
players represented. Junior Lauren Correll and
sophomore Kandice Hancock were both named to the
All-South region first team. Junior Beverly
Beladino, junior Michelle Rowe
and freshman Tara McGovern were all selected to
the second team.
The five selections this season increase Salisbury's program
total to 97 since 1988 with 68 of those selections named to the
first team. For the past 21 seasons, Salisbury has had at least
three players named to the All-South region team with at least two
first team selections.
This is Correll's second All-South region first team selection. The
junior co-captain had an outstanding junior season for the Sea
Gulls, as she led the team in goals (18) and points (38). The
Bridgeville, Del., native leads the CAC in goals per game (0.95),
shots (103) and shots on goal (75). Correll's 0.95 goals per game
ranks 26th in the nation. Correll averaged 2.0 points per game. The
All-American was selected as the CAC Player of the Week on
September 29 as she scored the final goal in SU's 2-0 victory over
No. 7 Rowan University on September 24. The two-time All-CAC first
team forward will enter her senior season with 58 goals, 14 assists
and 130 points. Her point total ranks seventh all-time in school
history.
Hancock, the 2008 CAC Player of the Year, makes her first career
All-South region appearance. She tallied 10 goals and added five
assists for the Sea Gulls this season. Hancock ranks sixth in the
conference in both shots (57) and shots per game (3.0). The
sophomore midfielder is tied for third in the CAC with four
game-winning goals. The Westover, Md., native was named CAC Player
of the Week on September 15 after she tallied four goals and scored
the game-winner against No. 13 Christopher Newport University. With
40 games under her belt, the two-time All-CAC first team midfielder
will enter her junior season with 15 goals, 16 assists and 46
points.
Beladino returns to the All-South region team for a second
straight year. Last season, the Putnam Valley, N.Y., native was on
the first team. Beladino started 15 games for Salisbury this
season. The forward is third on the team in goals (seven) and
points (18). The 2008 All-CAC second team selection tallied the
game's only goal in a 1-0 victory over Catholic University of
America on October 29. Beladino ranks sixth in the conference in
assists per game (0.27), eighth in assists (four), and ninth in
shots per game (2.67). In her three-year career, she has scored 31
goals and tallied 11 assists for 73 points.
Rowe makes her debut on the All-South region team this season.
The junior midfielder started all 19 games for SU in '08. The
All-CAC second team performer tallied goals in SU's 6-0 victory
over Frostburg State University on September 14 and the Sea Gulls'
4-1 triumph over University of Mary Washington on October 25. The
Elkton, Md., product also tallied one assist in Salisbury's 4-0
victory over SUNY Brockport on September 13. With Rowe's help, SU
ranked seventh in Division III with a 2.31 scoring margin. With 57
games played, Rowe will enter her senior season with three goals,
10 assists and 16 points.
McGovern is the third SU player making their first appearance on
the All-South region team this season. The 2008 CAC Rookie of the
Year has been a mainstay in the Sea Gull lineup as she has started
every game this season. The true freshman tallied two goals on 22
shots. The Yorktown Heights, N.Y., product ranks eighth in the CAC
in both assists (four) and assists per game (0.22). McGovern
tallied her first collegiate goal in Salisbury's 6-0 victory over
Frostburg State University on September 14. The freshman was
honored as the CAC Player of the Week on October 27.
