Twilley leads the way on Senior Night

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University field hockey sent its seniors off with a bang as the second-ranked Sea Gulls defeated Capital Athletic Conference foe Villa Julie College, 5-1, Tuesday evening at Sea Gulls Stadium in front of a crowd of 150 on Senior Night.

The Sea Gulls (14-1, 5-0 CAC) scored three first half goals and added two more in the second half en route to their 13th straight victory.

Senior Danielle Twilley started the scoring as she netted her 10th goal of the year off a penalty corner from sophomore Michelle Rowe. Sophomore Lauren Correll added her first of two goals on the day at the 14:50 mark to give SU the 2-0 lead.

Correll notched her second goal of the game six minutes later to give the maroon and goal a 3-0 halftime advantage.

Villa Julie (4-11, 2-4 CAC) got on the board two-minutes into the start of the second half as Jennifer Sauers put home a feed from Emily Pullarn to cut the SU lead to two, 3-1.

Rowe then recorded her first goal of the season in the 40th minute of the game. Later Rowe added another assist on Twilley's second goal of the game. The senior back fired home a blast from the top of the arc on a penalty corner to give Salisbury the 5-1 win. Rowe and Twilley ended the game with four points each.

Senior goalie Maria Ramoundos made two saves in the game and improved to 14-0 for the season while VJC's Kara Zimmerman made 10 saves in the loss.

The Sea Gulls had 14 shots in each the first and second halves while the Mustangs only managed three shots for the game. SU also held a 21-6 advantage in penalty corners.

The Sea Gulls return to action on Saturday, October 20, as they travel to Fredericksburg, Va., to face CAC rival University of Mary Washington at 1 p.m.
