Salisbury rolls 5-0 over SUNY Brockport

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University field hockey team earned its second win of the day in the SU Invitational as it defeated SUNY Brockport 5-0 on Saturday afternoon before 175 at Sea Gull Stadium.

Salisbury (3-1) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as it scored two goals in the first six minutes of the game. The No. 6 Sea Gulls were led offensively by senior forward Jami Gobao who converted both of her goals from two Danielle Twilley (three assists) passes.

Freshmen Kandice Hancock and Katy Lamboni each netted one goal apiece in the first half as SU led 4-0 at the half. Hancock's goal, which opened up the scoring four minutes into the game, was her second of the year. Lamboni's score was her first as a Sea Gull as she scored off of a penalty corner in the 14th minute.

The SU defense was stellar in the shutout as senior Kristina Holland contributed a defensive save and added an assist. Senior Maria Ramoundos (3-0) earned the win for the Gulls in the cage as she played 52 shutout minutes where she made one save. Freshman goalie Claire Davey-Karlson (no saves) finished out the game for the Gulls in goal.

SUNY Brockport (1-2) only managed two shots on goal while senior backer Colleen Fritz recorded two defensive saves. Golden Eagles goalie Andrea Vitello (two saves in 16 minutes) and Jen Allen (11 saves in 54 minutes) shared time in the cage.

Salisbury sophomore forward Lauren Correll added her second goal of the season which proved to be the final goal of the game at the 38th minute. SU outshot Brockport 25-3 and took 24 corners while the Golden Eagles had one. Every player on the SU roster played in the win.

The Sea Gulls will play in the second game tomorrow (Sunday) in day two of the SU Invitational as they take on the Royals of Eastern Mennonite at 11:15 a.m. SUNY Brockport will go up against Denison in the first game at 9 a.m.
