GLEN ALLEN, Va. - The Salisbury University
field hockey team moved up one spot in the final STX/National Field
Hockey Coaches Association Division III coaches' poll released
Tuesday as the Sea Gulls tie their highest ranking this year at No.
2 in the country.
Salisbury (18-1, 6-0 Capital Athletic Conference) earned a total of
501 points and two first-place votes as SU remains behind No. 1
Bowdoin College (16-0), who earned 555 points and 25-of-28 possible
first-place votes. SU last reached No. 2 in the country on October
16.
SU moved past defending national champion Ursinus College (18-2),
who is now ranked third with 481 points and the final first-place
vote. Rounding out the top five is Lebanon Valley College (19-1)
who is No. 4 with 477 points and The College of New Jersey at No. 5
with 454.
The Sea Gulls earned an at-large bid into the 2007 NCAA Division
III field hockey tournament as they have been selected to be one of
the four regional hosts. This marks the fifth time in six years
that SU will be a regional host.
Salisbury is coming of its 13th consecutive CAC championship and is
making its 23rd appearance in the NCAA tournament in the last 24
years.
