GLEN ALLEN, Va. - The Salisbury University
field hockey team moved up one spot in the latest STX/National
Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III coaches' poll
released Tuesday as the Sea Gulls are now No. 2 in the country.
Salisbury (13-1, 4-0 Capital Athletic Conference) earned a total
of 697 points and two first-place votes as SU fell short of No. 1
Bowdoin College (11-0) by only 46 points. The Sea Gulls came off a
week were they notched two victories, the latest over then No. 2
The College of New Jersey, 3-1, in Ewing, N.J. The first win of
last week came when they shut out CAC opponent Hood College, 11-0.
TCNJ was the fourth ranked team in the top 12 or higher that SU has
beaten this season.
Lebanon Valley College (14-0), Christopher Newport University
(13-1) and The College of New Jersey (9-2) round out the top five.
LVC and CNU were the only other teams to receive first-place votes
as they got four and two, respectively. CNU is the only team to
defeat SU this season back on September 5, 2-1, on the road.
This week marks the third consecutive week SU has climbed one
spot in the polls as they have moved from No. 5 to No. 2 in a three
week span. The Gulls started the season ranked sixth and have been
as low as No. 8.
Salisbury will play its final two CAC matches this week as it
hosts Villa Julie College today (Tuesday, October 16) at 5:30 pm
and then travels to the University Mary Washington on Saturday,
October 20, to wrap up conference play. SU is currently in first
place of the CAC.
