GLEN ALLEN, Va. - The Salisbury University
field hockey team moved up one spot in the latest STX/National
Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III coaches' poll
released Tuesday as the Sea Gulls are now No. 4 in the nation.
Salisbury (10-1, 2-0 CAC) earned 766 points and two first-place
votes as the maroon and gold fell 22 points shy of No. 3 The
College of New Jersey (788 points). Only six teams received
first-place votes. Defending national champion Ursinus College
(8-1) earned the most first-place votes (20) but dropped to No. 2
behind undefeated Bowdoin College (8-0). The Polar Bears earned 18
first-place votes and totaled 866 points.
The Sea Gulls moved up after they beat No. 12 Rowan, 2-1 and No. 4
Messiah, 3-0, last week. SU has now won nine straight games and are
outscoring its opponents by almost four goals a game.
The maroon and gold return to action Wednesday (October 3) as they
travel to Dover, Del., to meet up with Capital Athletic Conference
newcomer Wesley College at 4:30 p.m.
