Twilley named first team All-American, Correll lands on second team

GLEN FALLS, Va. - Senior Danielle Twilley became the ninth Salisbury University Sea Gull to be named a two-time first team All-American in field hockey as the 2007 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III All-American teams were released on Monday. Sophomore forward Lauren Correll was named second team All-American.

Twilley and Correll continue the streak of 27 years of at least one Salisbury student-athlete being named to a field hockey All-American team. This is the sixth straight year that SU has had a first team All-American. The Sea Gulls have had 78 total All-Americans since 1974 and 43 of them have been first team selections. The last two-time first team All-American for the Sea Gulls was Brittany Elliott (2004-05). Dawn Chamberlin has coached 48 All-Americans in the past 21 years she has been at the helm at SU.

Twilley and Correll led the No. 2 Sea Gulls to a 20-2 record in 2007 where the Sea Gulls won 19 consecutive games, won a 13th straight Capital Athletic Conference championship and made an appearance in the NCAA national semifinals.

Twilley, the 2007 CAC Player of the Year, recorded three straight postseason goals in the NCAA tournament this season. The senior co-captain was tied for second in scoring on the team with 35 points (15 goals, five assists). The first team All-CAC back led the team with five penalty stroke goals. She finishes her career with 24 goals, 17 assists and 65 points. She played and started in 86 games.

Correll, a first team All-CAC selection, led the Sea Gulls and the conference in scoring with 21 goals and three assists for 45 points. She had a team best eight game-winning goals in the '07 campaign. Correll has scored 40 goals, 12 assists and 92 points in her first two seasons at SU where she has started all 43 games.
