Salisbury cruises by Denison

SALISBURY, Md. - The three-time defending NCAA Division III national champion Salisbury University field hockey team opened up the Salisbury Invitational this morning with an 8-0 shutout of Denison University.

The first half was dominated by senior forward Lynette Sgrigoli (three goals, one assist) and freshman forward Lauren Correll (1g, 2a). All four of their combined goals came in the first half, both of Correll's assists were on Sgrigoli goals. Seniors Tracey Lloyd and Abby Rowe (1g, 1a) each added a first half assist.

Salisbury (3-0) continued to dominate in the second half as Abby Rowe scored five minutes in to stake the Gulls to a 5-0 lead. Freshman Beverly Beladino (1g) and sophomore Jami Goboa (2g) stepped up for the Sea Gull bench combining to score the final three goals of the contest. Denison's record drops to 1-2 for the season.

The Gulls outshot Denison 25-0, with 14 shots on goal. The Big Red's freshman goalie Megan Leigl had six saves
