Anthony Johnson returns for his sixth season total on the SU staff and his second as the Offensive Coordinator and Director of Football Operations. Prior to returning to Salisbury, Johnson served as an assistant coach at Division I Central Connecticut State University coaching the running backs in the NEC conference in 2016. In 2015 he was Salisbury’s running backs coach in their first season in the NJAC, when they claimed the conference championship. Prior to returning to Salisbury, he served as Head Coach for 2014 season and Offensive Coordinator at Division II Cheyney University from 2010-2013 in the PSAC conference.
Johnson was an All-ACFC performer and Offensive Player of the Year for his 2006 senior season, while winning two ACFC championships and playing in two NCAA tournaments with the Gulls. He earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Salisbury University.
In 2017 Johnson’s offense finished the season averaging 353.9 yards per game, which included the eighth ranked rushing attack in the nation with an average of 283.7 yards per game. As unit the offense totaled 3,893 yards, including 3,121 yards on the ground, and scored 44 total touchdowns.
Coach Johnson is the primary recruiter for Maryland (Baltimore County, Charles, and St. Mary’s) as well as New Jersey (Ocean and Monmouth).
