SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury football seniors Shane Gaines and Andrew Houck have each been awarded the chance to play in another collegiate football game as they will both participate in bowl games this weekend. Gaines will take part in the 2018 FAF D1-FCS Senior Scout Bowl on Saturday, December 15 while Houck will play in the 2018 FAF D3 Senior Classic on Friday, December 14.
Gaines completed an exceptional senior season in which he was named First Team All-New Jersey Athletic Conference as well as earning D3football.com All-East Region Third Team honors. Gaines completed the season totaling 39 tackles, 26 of which were solo, as well as three interceptions, six pass break ups, and one blocked kick.
He aided in a defensive unit that ranked among the nation's best in 2018 as the Sea Gulls finished ninth in total defense allowing 241.1 yards against on average, fourth in rushing defense surrendering 60.5 yards per game, and 10th in third down conversion percentage by opponents.
The bowl game is invite only and players are selected through the compiling and sorting of player data including coaches' nominations, NCAA stat leader boards, peer nominations, film review, and live scouting to name a few.
Houck rounded out his senior season as the top offensive lineman for the maroon and gold. Houck helped pave the way for the nation's top rushing attack as the Sea Gulls racked up 3,834 yards on the ground for an average of 348.5 yards per game in 2018.
For his efforts, Houck was named First Team All-NJAC as well as earning First Team Offense honors being named to the All-East Region Team for D3football.com.
The 2018 FAF D3 Senior Classic will be played on Friday, December 14 at 7 p.m. while the FAF D1-FCS Senior Bowl will be played on Saturday, December 15 at 4 p.m. Both games will be played in Myrtle Beach, S.C. at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
